The 7th COSME Tech Osaka 2026 was held at INTEX Osaka from September 30 to October 2, 2026. Eu-beauty presented at Booth C9-23, and our team received numerous visitors coming for price inquiries and sample comparisons over the three-day event. As a global one-stop cosmetic packaging solution provider, Eu-beauty stands as an ideal choice for brands seeking reliable packaging suppliers.
1. Product development managers from local Japanese brands-they came with clear new product launch plans, aiming to lock in suppliers prior to mold opening. Their questions were highly specific: what is the bottle mouth tolerance, what is the control range for batch color variation of frosted glass, and whether dropper silicone bulbs resist corrosion from citrus essential oils.
2. Japan-based representatives of Chinese global beauty brands-they sought packaging manufacturers that can align with China’s domestic supply chains while fully meeting Japanese regulatory compliance requirements.
3. Traders and distributors-they came to screen potential suppliers with sourcing demands from European and American clients.
Perfume packaging was one of our core exhibits at the show. We displayed several glass perfume bottles in various specifications, including refillable designs with replaceable inner bottles.
Japanese customers evaluate perfume bottles differently from their European and American counterparts. European and American clients usually prioritize design appeal first-whether the bottle shape is distinctive enough, and whether the surface finish is eye-catching. While Japanese clients also value design, they move much faster to in-depth questions about manufacturing details: how to control the uniformity of glass wall thickness, whether adhesion testing for spray coating has been conducted, and what the fit tolerance is between the bottle mouth and spray pump.
One customer left a particularly deep impression. He picked up a frosted perfume bottle, rotated it half a turn under the booth lighting, and asked: “What level of batch color consistency can you achieve for this frosted finish?”
This was a very practical question. Color consistency control for frosted glass is one of the most common pain points in mass production: it is barely noticeable at the sample stage, but customers only discover color mismatches between batches upon bulk delivery. We showed him our batch retention sample records and color difference testing data, after which he sat down to discuss potential cooperation.
Another notable trend is the surging demand for refillable designs. Several clients proactively asked about our refillable perfume bottle solutions with replaceable inner containers. While EU packaging regulations are tightening recyclability requirements and the Japanese market has not yet made such rules mandatory, high-end brands are already making proactive arrangements. Their key concerns include availability of ready-made refillable molds, whether the sealing structure can pass drop tests, and the fit precision between inner bottles and outer casings.
Aromatherapy brands focused most on the sealing performance and oil resistance of dropper assemblies. They asked about the material grade of silicone bulbs, whether sealing rings resist swelling from citrus essential oils, and the wall thickness uniformity of dropper glass tubes.
E-commerce channel clients prioritized transportation safety: bottle shatter resistance, compliance of child-resistant caps, and whether lightweight designs can pass drop tests.
Gift line clients inquired about surface treatment processes: availability of matte hot stamping, alcohol resistance of screen printing, and custom color matching options for bottle bodies.
The Japanese market also has a specific requirement for essential oil packaging: ink migration resistance treatment for labels. Ink bleeding on labels during shelf life is regarded as a quality defect. This detail is hard to detect at the sample stage, but leads to a considerable number of complaints after mass production. We brought label samples that had passed oil resistance testing to the booth, and one client noted they had encountered exactly this issue with products from other suppliers.
An essential oil brand client shared their current supplier selection criteria: the first screening round is based on compliance documentation, the second round evaluates sampling speed, and only the third round compares pricing. Price used to carry the most weight, but now supply stability and consistent quality rank higher.
Brands are no longer satisfied with the traditional "we provide drawings, you manufacture" model. They expect suppliers to get involved at the early stages of product development, collaborating on structural design, material selection and compliance solutions. This places higher demands on packaging manufacturers in terms of design capabilities, material databases and dedicated compliance teams.
Driven by EU regulations and shifting consumer awareness, refillable solutions and PCR materials have become mandatory requirements for a growing number of brands. Suppliers without relevant solutions will be directly eliminated during the screening process.
Supply stability, batch consistency and repeat order capacity were mentioned repeatedly throughout the show. While price remains important, it is no longer the top decision-making factor.
